Here’s the newest pic from the ad campaign I’m doing for the 2010 International Bash Back Queer Liberation Convergence… This one is obviously inspired by Carolee Schneeman’s Interior Scroll, which I wrote about a little while ago. I’m excited that I’ve gotten the chance to do this because being so fashion oriented, I’ve never really worked with nudity and the body, which is really a shame. After starting this series I’ve gotten really excited about placing our literal bodies and our physical intimacy within a radical context of anti-assimilation and anarchism, demonstrating the juxtaposition of vulnerability with radical indignation. We’re always seeing imagery of anarchists as groups of aggressive, angry, scary people who look and dress alike, which has never really resonated with my politics. I have demands, of course, but those demands are coming from me as a person, my individual physical and mental experience within the world, and so it’s really nice to have a chance to depict our differences, physically and sexually, while celebrating our demands for queer liberation. But yeah, I’m super excited about the convergence, I’ve been hearing a ton of positive feedback from all sorts of people, some reservations of course, but overall people seem super excited and I think it’s going to be a great time!

CALL FOR WORKSHOP PROPOSALS:
We want this year’s convergence to be a smashing success, and to do it we need your help. Workshops were an integral part of previous convergences and will be this year. We are seeking workshop proposals for this year’s convergence especially on the following topics: Anti-Oppression!, Mental Health, Queer Nurturing, Response to Sexual Assault, DIY Sex Toys, DIY Other Sexy Things, Sex Work, Direct Action (including Bloc Tactics, Mobile Disco Sound Systems, Analysis/Theory), Anarchist and Queer Theory/Histories, Prison Abolition, Prisoner Support, Kink, Spirituality, Group Presentations,Queer/Anarchist films and documentaries, and Permaculture/Rural Queer. Your workshop idea doesn’t fit into any of those categories? Awesome, submit it anyway! And we want to hear what you queermos are doing in your communities, so send that too!
Last year’s convergence was amahzing! Thank you Chicago! We’re hoping to create such a welcoming and dynamic convergence as last year, as well, the convergence schedulers this year are taking steps this year to ensure that last year’s confusion during workshop sessions doesn’t happen again. This means we will schedule more time between workshops and have workshops with technical assistance being set up in the workshop slot ahead of time, but it also means if you say you’re doing a workshop, you commit to doing it at the scheduled time and location.
Please include: workshop title, presenter(s), description, ideal time length, and your material and logistical needs. Also mention space needs–do you need a blackboard, space to run or dance around, indoor/outdoor preference? The deadline for workshop proposals is May 2nd at 10:32 pm EST, and a materials deadline for accepted workshops is May 9th at 8:59 pm PST. Workshop proposals should be sent to: bbworkshops |at| gmail |dot| com.
Can’t wait to hear from you!
